Job summary

Eversource in Boston, MA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to advance grid modernization through DMS and real-time technologies. You will model electric distribution systems, optimize load/VAR, and collaborate across control centers, IT, and engineering to deliver robust solutions.

Applicants should have a BS in Engineering, 5+ years in the electrical utility sector, and strong leadership and communication skills to drive initiatives and present findings in industry forums.

Qualifications

BS in Engineering required.
Minimum 5 years in electrical utility technical/operational/engineering fields.
Solid understanding of load flow, stability, voltage regulation, power factor, losses, and load/generation modeling.
Experience modeling electric distribution systems.
Ability to manipulate data from large datasets to derive engineering results.
Strong knowledge of DMS/OMS/GIS/SCADA/EMS and Synergi/Cyme.
Basic understanding of DNP in SCADA systems.
Strong analytical and presentation skills; leadership capabilities.
Visa sponsorship not available; MS/MBA preferred; supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Support distribution system optimization using DMS advanced functionality.
Serve as SME in real-time technologies including ADMS, SCADA, DER dispatching, energy storage, microgrids, Volt/Var optimization, and load shedding.
Collaborate with control centers, IT, and engineering resources on DMS functionality and future enhancements.
Support specification and configuration of DMS advanced applications such as FLISR, LVM, AFR, and Load/Generation Scheduling.
Develop project approval documentation covering need statements, scope, technical solutions, alternatives, risks and mitigations, budget, and schedule.
Investigate new industry technologies and tools and assess their relevance and benefits to system operations control rooms.
Develop tools and methods to process data from multiple sources for engineering models and databases.
Support multidisciplinary teams across three states and multiple functions to implement grid modernization programs.
Communicate grid modernization initiatives externally and participate in industry forums.
Act on behalf of the Lead Engineer when absent and advocate for forward-looking initiatives.

Support electric system operators by optimizing the distribution system using DMS advanced functionality, including Automatic Feeder Reconfiguration, Load Volt/VAR Management, Planned Outage Study, and DER/Load Forecasting
Serve as a subject matter expert in real-time technologies including ADMS, SCADA, DER dispatching, energy storage, microgrids, Volt/Var Optimization, and load shedding
Collaborate with system operations control centers, IT, and engineering resources on DMS functionality and future enhancements
Support specification and configuration of DMS advanced applications such as FLISR, LVM, AFR, and Load and Generation Scheduling
Develop project approval documentation covering need statements, scope, technical solutions, alternatives, risks and mitigations, budget, and schedule

Requirements

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology required
Minimum of five (5) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry
Thorough understanding of electrical engineering concepts, including load flow, stability, voltage regulation, power factor, losses, and load and generation modeling
Experience modeling electric distribution systems
Ability to manipulate data from large datasets to provide specific engineering results
Thorough knowledge of electric distribution operational technologies such as DMS, OMS, GIS, SCADA, EMS, and Synergi/Cyme
Basic understanding of communication systems and protocols such as DNP used in SCADA control systems
Strong analytical skills, including experience using qualitative tools in strategic development
Demonstrated business development aptitude and strong presentation skills
Strong leadership skills and ability to work effectively throughout the organization
Proficiency in oral and written communications
Applicants requiring visa sponsorship to start employment with Eversource will not be considered
MS in Engineering or MBA preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
