Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) technician to perform service operations, maintenance, and support across regional sites. You will troubleshoot, conduct preventive maintenance, review schematics, and coordinate with supervisors, customers, and vendors to meet project goals.

The role requires an HS degree with 4+ years in electrical/renewable energy, OSHA 10/NFPA 70E/CPR certifications (or ability to obtain), strong safety focus, and willingness to travel frequently.

Qualifications

HS Degree and 4+ years’ experience in electrical or renewable energy industries.
Ability to read and interpret schematic drawings and follow QC/testing procedures.
High attention to detail and proper documentation.
Bidirectional inverters, 1500VDC and 630 VAC systems; extra for substations.
Experience with electrical testing equipment (meggers, multimeters).
Willingness to travel frequently to assigned sites within the region (up to 3 weeks).
Must be able to obtain OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, and CPR certifications.

Job description

Perform service operations, maintenance, and support for Battery Energy Storage Systems.
Assist the RM with site reports, onsite LOTO, and communications between the site, management team, customers, and vendors.
Maintain site safety using Fluence best practices and safety management systems; use stop-work authority when warranted.
Alert project team members to issues and concerns.
Mentor and support junior team members on complex technical issues.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on BESS equipment and related assets, including SCADA communications, inverters, MV/HV operations, HVAC, substations, switching, and inspections.
Create, review, and execute work orders; manage inventory, collect data, and prepare summary reports.
Inspect, test, and repair utility‑scale power and controls equipment.
Interpret single‑line drawings and schematics; troubleshoot BESS installations, configurations, control wiring, and I/O racks.
Configure TCP/IP and Modbus protocols and perform electrical testing.
Support management of third‑party service vendors delivering O&M services across contracted BESS projects.
Meet timelines, schedules, scopes of work, quality assurances, inspections, troubleshooting and repair objectives, and work‑order completion requirements.
Maintain communication with supervisors, engineers, and managers using MS Teams, email, and other communication tools.
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Requirements

HS Degree and 4 plus years’ experience working in the electrical or renewable energy industries within generation / operations / technical teams (solar/wind/BESS/gas/hydro/distribution).
Demonstrated problem‑solving skills related to electrical troubleshooting, read, and interpret schematic drawings, ability to follow company QC and testing procedures.
High level of attention to detail and focus on proper documentation.
Bidirectional inverters, 1500VDC and 630 VAC systems, extra for substations.
Using electrical testing equipment, including meggers and multi‑meters.
Managed Ethernet Switches, Media Converters (Fiber & Serial).
HVAC & Chiller systems operations & maintenance.
Using Torque tools and Thermal Imaging tools to maintain/verify proper electrical connections.
Ability to adapt and work in extreme hot and cold environments, manage time and tasks effectively with a sense of urgency, and work overtime/weekends as needed.
Either currently hold, or able to immediately obtain certifications for OSHA 10, NFPA 70E, and CPR.
Must be willing to travel frequently to assigned sites within the region, including up to 3 weeks at a time.
Able to operate company vehicles on site and on public roads and highways; must have a current driver’s license with a good DMV record.
Requires ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, walk, reach, climb ladders/steps, and lift at least 50 lbs.
Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
