Job summary

Attractivate Consulting Solutions is seeking a Distribution Management System (DMS) Engineer to support design, configuration, and ongoing operations of our DMS for a utility environment. You will work at the intersection of OT, IT, and power systems engineering to enable real-time grid monitoring and control.

Responsibilities include integrating DMS with SCADA/OMS, developing models, and troubleshooting alarms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 4+ years experience with Distribution Management Systems or Advanced Distribution Management Systems in a utility environment.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more major DMS/ADMS platforms (e.g., GE Smallworld/ADMS, Oracle Utilities ADMS, ABB Ability Network Manager, Schneider Electric ArcFM/ADMS, or Siemens ADMS).
  • Strong understanding of electric distribution system operations, topology, and protection concepts.
  • Experience with system integrations, data modeling, and communication protocols used in utility environments (DNP3, IEC 61968/61970 CIM, IEC 61850).
  • Familiarity with GIS data and its role in distribution network modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and support the DMS platform, including core applications like DSSE, FLISR, VVO, and switching order management.
  • Integrate the DMS with adjacent systems (SCADA, OMS, GIS, AMI, EMS) for seamless data flow and situational awareness.
  • Develop and maintain network models, connectivity models, and equipment parameters within the DMS.
  • Troubleshoot DMS alarms, data quality issues, and performance problems for real-time operations teams.
  • Lead or participate in DMS upgrades, patches, and feature rollouts with testing and validation.
  • Collaborate with IT, cybersecurity, and OT to meet security and compliance requirements (NERC CIP).
  • Document configurations, workflows, and design changes; provide training and technical support.

Job description

We are looking for a talented and motivated Distribution Management System (DMS) Engineer to join our utility team. In this role, you will be a key technical resource responsible for the implementation, configuration, and ongoing support of our Distribution Management System — the core platform enabling real-time monitoring, control, and optimization of our electric distribution network. You will work at the intersection of operations technology, power systems engineering, and IT to deliver reliable grid management capabilities that serve our customers and communities

What You'll do:
  • Do Design, configure, and support the DMS platform, including core applications such as DSSE (Distribution State Estimation), FLISR (Fault Location, Isolation, and Service Restoration), Volt/VAR Optimization (VVO), and switching order management
  • Integrate the DMS with adjacent systems, including SCADA, OMS, GIS, AMI, and EMS to ensure seamless data flow and operational awareness
  • Develop and maintain network models, connectivity models, and equipment parameters within the DMS to accurately reflect the physical distribution system
  • Support real-time operations teams by troubleshooting DMS alarms, data quality issues, and application performance problems
  • Lead or participate in DMS upgrades, patch deployments, and new feature rollouts, including testing and validation activities
  • Collaborate with IT, cybersecurity, and OT teams to ensure the DMS environment meets security, availability, and compliance requirements (NERC CIP, where applicable)
  • e)Document system configurations, workflows, operating procedures, and design changes
  • Provide training and technical support to operations and engineering staff on DMS tools and functionality
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience working with Distribution Management Systems or Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) in a utility environment
  • Hands-on experience with one or more major DMS/ADMS platforms (e.g., GE Smallworld/ADMS, Oracle Utilities ADMS, ABB Ability Network Manager, Schneider Electric ArcFM/ADMS, or Siemens ADMS)
  • Strong understanding of electric distribution system operations, topology, and protection concepts
  • Experience with system integrations, data modeling, and communication protocols used in utility environments (DNP3, IEC 61968/61970 CIM, IEC 61850)
  • Familiarity with GIS data and its role in the distribution network modeling
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure in a critical infrastructure environment
Nice to Have
  • Experience with NERC CIP compliance and OT cybersecurity best practices
  • Familiarity with AMI, DER management, or microgrid integration
  • Knowledge of Python, SQL, or scripting tools for data analysis and automation
  • PE license or active pursuit of a professional engineering license
