Job summary

Duke Energy Florida is seeking an Associate Dispatcher for its Distribution Control Center. The program trains you to become a Distribution Dispatcher through classroom, on-the-job, and field training, building proficiency in dispatch operations.

The role requires working days, nights, weekends, and holidays; you will monitor system alarms, coordinate switching, and implement contingency plans to keep the grid safe and reliable. A pathway through SOPD testing is part of the process.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with required experience.
• Journeyman lineman or journeyman electrician-substation.
• System Protection & Control Technician (Relay Tech).
• 5 years in distribution, transmission, production, or power-utility related experience.
• 3 years distribution/transmission/production with an Associate’s Degree in related field.
• 1 year distribution/transmission/production with a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering.
• Ability to comprehend one- and three-line diagrams.
• Experience with SCADA and OMS applications.

Responsibilities

• Operate the electrical distribution system safely and reliably.
• Monitor multiple computer applications for system alarms and outages.
• Coordinate and direct switching activities for maintenance and power restoration.
• Form contingency plans and implement them during events.
• Dispatch service level work orders to field resources.
