Job summary

CenterPoint Energy in Houston seeks a Distribution Controller apprentice to dispatch and load-balance service orders, and coordinate with field crews via SAP and outage management systems.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, typing speed of 40 wpm, and the ability to multitask under pressure. Training progresses through three levels toward Distribution Controller with strong emphasis on safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Will consider CenterPoint Energy experience for non-degree candidates.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in computers or business-related fields preferred.
• Must pass EEi aptitude and skills test.
• Dispatching experience in routing field personnel and private radio operations.
• Basic computer program experience (Microsoft products, SCADA, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Meet entry requirements for the three-year Distribution Controller apprentice program and advance through levels.
• Communicate clearly with employees, contractors, customer service and management.
• Exercise discretion, tact, and good judgment under stressful or emergency situations.
• Able to comprehend basic rules of electricity and device effects on flow.
• Multitask and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Type a minimum of 40 wpm with high accuracy.
• Resolves scheduling issues between Call Center, customers, and supervision.
• Answer telephone or two-way radio and perform call-ahead requests for field technicians.
• Receive, create and dispatch emergency calls and customer complaints following procedures.
• Work under close supervision and demonstrate respect for all individuals.
• Adhere to company values and policies consistently.
