Job summary

Merck is seeking an Associate Director, Engineering within Biologics External Manufacturing Technology to lead technical transfers with External Partners and manage cross-functional teams across global sites.

The role requires deep biologics manufacturing experience, strong leadership, and the ability to navigate complex networks to ensure successful transfers and continuous improvement in a fast-growing external manufacturing network.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or applicable Science required; an advanced degree in Engineering, Science, or Business is preferred.
• Minimum 8 years post-bachelor’s degree experience in Drug Substance and/or Drug Product vaccines and/or biologics manufacturing, engineering, and/or technical support of operations.
• Expertise and demonstrated accomplishments leading technical transfers is required.
• Experience in leading cross-functional teams in support of manufacturing operations is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for Biologics External Manufacturing technology transfers to external partners and drive on-time delivery.
• Lead complex partnership models with coordination across Procurement, Regulatory, External Quality, and Operations.
• Develop validation strategies for new and existing products and ensure readiness of external partner sites.
• Assess viability of process configurations and guide continuous process verification and performance monitoring.
• Coordinate risk assessments and mitigation plans with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support/coordinate investigations and changes to Master Batch Records with minimal duplication of efforts.
