Job summary

Merck is seeking an Associate Director, Engineering within Biologics External Manufacturing Technology. You will lead technical transfers to External Partners and manage complex cross-functional programs for vaccines and biologics, ensuring on-time delivery and robust risk management.

Based in the US with a flexible location, you will collaborate across functions, guide partners, and drive continuous improvement, process verification, and readiness for product introductions in a global network.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or applicable Science is required.
• Minimum of 8 years post-bachelor’s degree experience in Drug Substance and/or Drug Product vaccines and/or biologics manufacturing, engineering, and/or technical support of operations is required

Responsibilities

• Provides a single point of technical contact to assigned External Partners, impacted Company Manufacturing Division sites, and Commercialization.
• Provides technical oversight, management, and planning support for complex partnership models.
• Accountable to External Manufacturing for overall tech transfer delivery (on-time, within budget).
• Guides External Partner process changes and ensures adherence to required standards.
• Leads risk assessment and mitigation planning with Cross-functional teams.
• Develops and executes validation strategies for new and existing products.
• Supports resolution of manufacturing issues and optimization of process capacity.
• Ensures partner readiness for inspections and product introductions.
