Job summary

Travelers in California is seeking an Associate Counsel to handle a caseload of lower to mid‑complexity litigation, from inception to trial. You will work under senior lawyers to develop litigation skills and deliver value to insured clients.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of litigation experience, strong writing and research abilities, and a license to practice in the state. You will collaborate with claim partners and colleagues to provide excellent service.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of litigation experience.
• Demonstrates persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
• Proficiency in legal research tools & technology.
• Ability to foster collaborative relationships with colleagues, customers, and business partners to deliver exceptional customer service.
• Demonstrates strong communication skills, sense of urgency, and responsiveness.

Responsibilities

• Handle a caseload of lower to mid‑complexity matters from inception through trial.
• Acquire and develop knowledge on applying effective litigation/negotiation skills.
• Conduct legal research and write persuasive pleadings, briefs, and filings.
• Attend court events, depositions, and appointments under supervision.
• Provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners on file handling strategy.
• Build and maintain strong internal and external client relationships.
• Utilize case management tech and automation effectively.
• Travel as required to meet business needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
