Job summary

Garmin, a leader in GPS technology, seeks a full-time Associate Author at its U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.

You will assist in planning, developing, and delivering customer instructional deliverables using DITA-based XML authoring tools and InDesign. You'll collaborate with localization, product development, and graphics teams to ensure content accuracy, reuse existing material, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Journalism, English or related field OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
• GPA of 3.0 or higher as a general guideline
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to learn and apply required standards, processes, and tools
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Excellent organizational, time-management, and follow-up skills
• Team-oriented with a positive attitude and collaboration skills
• Ability to manage overlapping projects and meet deadlines with accuracy and quality

Responsibilities

• Author accurate, clear content using DITA-based XML and InDesign
• Collaborate with localization team to plan and complete localized deliverables
• Reuse existing content to improve efficiency and reduce costs
• Work with graphics professionals to develop instructional illustrations
• Identify and troubleshoot basic issues using proper tools and processes
• Maintain focus on priorities, deadlines, and attendance
• Document, track, and evaluate project requirements, scope, schedules, costs, risks, and dependencies
