Oakland Community College seeks an Assistive Technology Specialist to provide technical support and services for students with accessibility needs. You will train students and staff, manage accommodations, and collaborate with IT and Academic Technology to integrate assistive tech into LMS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required or Associate's degree with five (5) years of experience working with adult disabilities.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with students with disabilities (e.g. tutoring, instructing, etc.).
  • Experience with grant funded projects and multi-cultural students and staff preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate, recommend, and manage assistive technology accommodations to meet individual student accessibility needs.
  • Serve as primary contact to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve assistive technology issues; install upgrades as needed.
  • Provide information and individualized training on available assistive technology services and resources to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with events and college orientations
  • Serve as liaison and collaborate with Academic Technology Group to integrate assistive technology into learning management systems
  • Meet and consult with department managers, IT staff, and end users regarding system upgrades, purchases, and network modifications
  • Maintain clear documentation and communications on implementation of and compliance with accessibility services and procedures
  • Conduct workshops and seminars on assistive technology for faculty and staff
  • Participate in budget development, track expenditures and recommend purchases of assistive technology equipment and supplies
  • Stay current on assistive technology trends, tools, and best practices
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and records
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.
