Job summary

Symetra seeks an Assistant Vice President, Data Analytics to drive data-driven transformation within the annuities and retirement solutions division. Lead cross-functional data teams, partner with business and IT leaders, and shape analytics initiatives that improve efficiency, revenue, and customer experience.

The role combines strategic planning with hands-on analytics, modeling, and governance to build scalable data assets and enable self-service insights across the organization.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of proven experience in data analytics, data science, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience leading, mentoring and developing technical teams.
• Hands on technical expertise with Python, DBT, and Snowflake.
• Proficiency with modern data mining, analytics, and visualization tools.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex concepts clearly.
• Strategic problem solver with a track record of motivating change and building consensus.
• Demonstrated curiosity and familiarity with AI and its implications at the enterprise level of an organization.
• Skilled relationship‑builder who can influence at all levels of the organization.
• Continuous learner who stays current on industry trends and emerging technologies.
• High School Diploma required, bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
• Ability to travel occasionally as needed.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership & Partnership: Develop and implement Symetra’s data and analytics strategy in collaboration with IT leaders and business partners.
• Drive Advanced Analytics, AI & Modeling: Lead descriptive analytics, predictive modeling, AI, and ML initiatives while guiding teams.
• Data Management & Governance: Oversee a stable, trusted, scalable enterprise data environment and promote self-service BI.
• Team Leadership & Development: Mentor technical teams, set clear responsibilities, and foster continuous learning.
