Job summary

RailWorks Corporation is seeking an Assistant VP & Controller to lead the finance and accounting functions for major projects and the shared services hub. You will ensure GAAP compliance, oversee month-end close, budgeting, and joint ventures’ financials, while guiding a team across sites to deliver accurate reporting.

The role requires at least 7 years of senior finance experience, a Bachelor's in Finance or Accounting, and strong Excel/Office skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting; CPA a plus.
• Minimum 7 years senior-level finance or accounting experience.
• North American cross-border experience preferred.
• Knowledge of GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley and financial regulations.
• Strong ability to analyze financial data and prepare reports and forecasts.
• Experience with budgeting, cost control, and reporting systems.
• Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to train staff.
• Ability to work remotely with managers and staff in various locations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Acts as subject matter expert for site accounting and accounting-related issues.
• Prepares and/or oversees the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual, and periodic accounting and financial information including variance reports, budgets, financial statements, and forecasts.
• Supports multiple construction project teams and manages the financial needs and reporting requirements of each one.
• Manages the financial side of joint ventures, from both a lead and minority position.
• Ensures integrity of financial records by maintaining a strong internal control environment in compliance with Company policies, GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley; provides feedback of any corrective action required.
• Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements; prepares and/or oversees preparation of reports to government and regulatory agencies.
• Prepares analyses for and acts as liaison with internal and external auditors.
• Manages month-end close process.
• Leads the preparation of the annual operating budget.
• Performs annual staff performance evaluations.
