Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Basketball Coach on a temporary basis. The role includes assisting the head coach with instruction, game strategy, and supervision of athletes within AHSAA guidelines.

Candidates should be prepared to obtain a CDL if not already held and to complete required background checks. The position notes that the salary will be pro-rated based on contract days remaining in the school year, and is contingent on funding and duration per Students First Act

Qualifications

• Current Alabama Teacher’s Certification (preferred) or classified dependent upon qualifications of the person holding the position
• Previous Experience in sports as a participant and/or coach (preferred) but not required
• Completion of all requirements set forth by the AHSAA Coaches’ Education Program
• Must have or be willing to obtain CDL

Responsibilities

• Instruct players in rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of basketball
• Assist with determining game strategy
• Assist the head coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition
• Ensure all athletic activities conform to AHSAA guidelines
• Know and implement safe practices and safety procedures in the sport

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Assists the Head Basketball coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport
• Assists with determining game strategy
• Assists the head basketball coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition
• Ensure that all athletic activities conform to AHSAA guidelines
• Knows effective safety procedures in their sport, plans and implements a program of instruction in safe practices.

Section 4(3)(b), tenure may not be gained by time served in this position).

SPECIAL NOTE:

The person selected for this position must agree to a background check, be fingerprinted, and pay a $46.20 fee. This is required by law.

SPECIAL NOTE:

For employees starting work after the beginning date of the work term, the salary will be pro-rated and based on the number of contract days left in the school year, divided by the remaining months in the contract year.
