Job summary

Dallas County seeks a Civil Engineer to assist in directing engineering, surveying, construction, and maintenance for county road infrastructure. You will manage infrastructure projects, including drafting/design, estimates, bid documents, and contract administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years relevant experience.
• Ability to obtain Iowa DOT certifications (Aggregate, HMA, PCC).
• Valid Iowa driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in directing engineering, surveying, construction, and maintenance activities for county road infrastructure.
• Manage infrastructure projects, including drafting/design, estimates, bid documents, and contract administration.
• Negotiate right-of-way acquisitions and prepare related documents.
• Perform construction inspection on grading, paving, bridges, culverts, and erosion control projects.
• Maintain project records and prepare reports.
• Coordinate department recordkeeping and assist public with document research.
• Lead and perform survey crew activities; maintain and purchase surveying/engineering equipment.
• Review engineering and surveying data for accuracy.
• Update and maintain inventory maps.
• Train staff on equipment and safety procedures.
• Participate in department meetings and training.
