Job summary

Berea College is seeking an Assistant Teacher for the Child Development Lab to assist the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, stimulating learning environment for young children. The role includes planning emergent curriculum, documenting child development, and engaging families with professional collaboration.

Candidates should hold a CDA credential (or be pursuing) and preferably an associate degree in Early Childhood Education.

Qualifications

• CDA credential required
• Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field strongly preferred
• Two years related experience in childcare or early childhood education is preferred
• Clear criminal background check and state licensing prerequisites required

Responsibilities

• Engage with children in intentional ways and document play for development.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate a daily schedule through an emergent curriculum.
• Involve families in classroom life and communicate professionally with staff.
• Share responsibility with the Lead Teacher in planning and organizing classroom activities.
• Lead in the Lead Teacher’s absence and maintain accurate attendance and records.
