Job summary

YMCA of the Inland Northwest seeks an Assistant Teacher for the EWU Managed Children’s Center in Cheney, WA. The role focuses on creating an inclusive learning environment, fostering relationships with children and families, and supporting a lead teacher with developmentally appropriate activities.

The position requires adherence to licensing and YMCA standards, ongoing observations, and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• Individuals working toward Early Childhood Education Certificate preferred, minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Previous experience working with children in a developmental, diverse setting preferred
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
• Required prior to first day: Negative TB test within the past 6 months, MMR Vaccination
• Required Completion on first day of hire: Registered in DCYF MERIT, Blood Borne Pathogens, apply for a portable background check
• Required within 30 days of hire: Child Abuse Prevention training, First Aid/CPR Certifications, Food Handlers Permit, 30 Hours Basic Training or Educational Exemption
• Understands the YMCA if a public accommodation committed to inclusion and compliance with the ADA
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

Responsibilities

• Cultivates positive relationships with children, families and co-workers
• Support in classrooms by supervising, engaging, and nurturing children
• Adheres to DCYF Licensing, Early Achievers and YMCA standards
• Aids in observations and maintains required program records
• Maintains classroom and equipment cleanliness and organization
• Attends family nights, program activities, staff meetings and trainings
• Demonstrates YMCA values in actions with staff and participants
