Job summary

The YMCA of the Inland Northwest is seeking a Lead Teacher at Whitman Elementary in Spokane, WA. This full-time role involves directing the classroom, planning engaging activities, and fostering positive relationships with children and families to support learning and development.

You will implement age-appropriate programs, adhere to DCYF licensing and YMCA standards, and communicate progress to parents while building a safe, inclusive classroom environment.

Qualifications

• Must obtain Early Childhood Education Certificate within 5 years of hire.
• Experience with children in developmental, diverse settings required.
• Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities.
• Negative TB test within 6 months; MMR vaccination.
• DCYF MERIT, Blood Borne Pathogens, background check requirements.
• Within 30 days: 30 Hours Basic Training or exemption; First Aid/CPR etc.
• ADA understanding and inclusive environment.
• Ability to build positive relationships across backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate positive relationships with children, families and co-workers.
• Lead classroom with engaging, purposeful programming.
• Adhere to licensing and YMCA standards; maintain safety.
• Conduct ongoing observations and maintain records.
• Communicate progress to parents; conduct conferences.
• Maintain classroom and equipment; keep learning environment prepared.
• Participate in family nights, staff meetings, trainings.
• Model YMCA Four Core Principles of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility.
