Assistant Swim Team Coach

Part-Time/Non-Exempt

$12.15-$17.00/Hourly

Position Summary:

Responsible for providing quality instructional training/coaching to program participants. Persons in this position must closely adhere to the YMCA of the USA guidelines for competitive coaching and swimming.

Essential Functions:

1. Assist the Swim Team Director with assigned duties relating to designing and implementing a training plan, supervising swimmers and practices, preparing meet entries, and all on-deck activities.
2. Assist Swim Team Director with daily practices and swim meets for other groups on a regular basis.
3. Assist the Swim Team Director with assigned administrative duties relating to meet and practice schedules, travel, accommodation, planning, and other areas as assigned.
4. Keep control of the behavior of swimmers at all times, and if necessary, communicate behavioral issues to parents/guardians.
5. Adhere to and be on time for all scheduled practices.
6. Ensure safety by communicating and enforcing any pool rules, policies, and guidelines at participants’ comprehension level.
7. Keep accurate records on each swimmer evaluating him/her at the beginning and end of the session.
8. Communicate effectively with both children and their parents/guardians.
9. Must be able to meet the physical and emotional demands of the job including being able to get into the water for training and instruction.
10. Maintain a clean and safe environment by removing any hazardous obstacles and reporting unsafe conditions or equipment to your supervisor.
11. Provide an emotionally secure environment for participants.
12. Have the aptitude and attitude for coaching all ages and levels of swimming ability.
13. Give excellent coaching instructions.
14. Promote aquatics and other YMCA programs.
15. Communicate to the direct supervisor any concerns, needed repairs, or incidents that may need follow-up.
16. Communicate any suggestions to improve the aquatics facility.

Qualifications:

1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
2. High school diploma or GED required.
3. Certification requirements include CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and a current Lifeguard certification is recommended but not required.
4. Twelve months or more of related experience required.
5. Must possess quality knowledge of competitive swimming organizations, strokes, starts, turns, and other related skills. Experience with Team Unify software platform preferred.
