Job summary

EMC Mechanical Services, based in Richmond, VA, seeks an Assistant Superintendent to join our Construction division. You will support the Superintendent, oversee daily field operations, and coordinate manpower, materials, and subcontractors for mechanical projects.

You’ll serve as a bridge between field crews, project management, and general contractors to keep projects on schedule and safe, with emphasis on quality and safety standards across all tasks.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of relevant experience.
• OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the Superintendent in managing daily field operations for HVAC, sheet metal, plumbing, and mechanical piping systems.
• Ensure job sites are organized, safe, and ready for work at the start of each shift.
• Review and help interpret construction drawings, specifications, and approved submittals.
• Coordinate manpower and assist with planning daily and weekly labor needs.
• Order, track, and verify materials in accordance with project specifications and schedules.
• Monitor field progress to help keep projects on schedule and communicate potential issues.
• Attend coordination meetings with the GC, subcontractors, and project teams as needed.
• Supervise mechanics, apprentices, and helpers to ensure productivity, quality, and adherence to company standards.
• Document field communication and follow up on key discussions with written communication when necessary.
• Promote and enforce job-site safety standards, including PPE compliance and safe work practices.
