Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Substation Engineer to develop design deliverables for high-voltage substation projects from concept to completion. You will support the project team through design and construction, adapting plans to budget, design factors, or client needs.

Responsibilities include creating substation packages, performing calculations, and preparing estimates, BOMs, and equipment specs. Field inspections and client communications are also part of the role.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree with 3 years substation experience required.
• Electrical/Mechanical degree with FE exam per option two.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong analytical skills.
• Proficient computer skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Supports substation projects from conceptual phase through completion.
• Prepares substation design packages (layout, relaying, grounding, lighting, security).
• Develops substation calculations (insulation, DC, voltage drop, cable sizing).
• Prepares design sketches, estimates, BOMs, equipment specs and deliverables.
• Applies IEEE, NESC standards and QA/QC procedures.
• Supports field inspections and client communications.
