Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for proficiency in all areas of a retail operation. The role serves as the second in charge of operations to the Store Manager, providing leadership and direction to the store team, ensuring a positive customer shopping experience, and performing operational activities throughout the store. It also involves promoting a safe and productive work environment for all Team Members, customers, and vendors, as well as training Team Members on policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

It is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, fulfilling the following requirements:

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Uphold and promote a safe and productive work environment by following policies and procedures.
  • Support selling initiatives (TEAM): thank the customer, engage with the customer and/or pet, advise on products or services, and make the experience memorable.
  • Perform duties such as assisting Store Manager in operations, supporting team staffing and training, executing merchandising activities, handling cash and deposits, assessing store conditions, organizing workflow, merchandise recovery, price changes, resolving customer issues, adhering to loss prevention standards, communicating with team members, and ensuring the safety and well-being of live animals.
Required Qualifications

Experience: Previous retail leadership experience is required. Pet/live animal knowledge is strongly preferred. Supervisory experience is a plus. Must be at least 18 years old with a valid driver’s license.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Ability to read, write, and count accurately is necessary.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
  • Ability to perform and execute responsibilities of team members.
  • Pet/live animal, pet food, and pet product knowledge is strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically with minimal conflict.
  • Basic computer skills.
Working Conditions
  • Generally indoor environment with moderate noise.
  • Shifts typically no less than 4 hours, potentially exceeding 8 hours.
  • Promote safety and adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Store surfaces are hard (concrete, asphalt), with adequate lighting and temperature.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift or reach overhead, stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders.
  • Move throughout the store during shifts.
  • Operate store equipment safely and effectively.
  • Read, write, and count accurately for documentation.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Complete training and certification as required.
  • Travel and drive as needed.
  • Position is non-sedentary, requiring physical stamina.
