This position is responsible for proficiency in all areas of a retail operation. The role serves as the second in charge of sales initiatives and functions alongside the Store Manager. Responsibilities include assisting in providing leadership and direction to the Sales team and Team Leaders, ensuring a positive customer shopping experience, and performing operational activities throughout the store. The position also promotes a safe and productive work environment for all Team Members, customers, and vendors, and involves training Sales Team Members on policies and procedures. This role is sales-driven, with a focus on driving sales performance and metrics by fostering a robust selling culture.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

It is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, as you must be able to fulfill all of the following requirements:

  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Work assigned schedules based on business needs.
  • Uphold and promote a safe and productive work environment by following policies and procedures.
  • Support selling initiatives (GURA):
    • Greet the Customer
    • Uncover customer needs
    • Recommend products
    • Ask for the Sale
  • Responsible for all selling metrics, including customer experience scores.
  • Deliver legendary service and drive sales through selling initiatives.
  • Maintain superior product knowledge and foster continuous training within the Sales Team.
  • Motivate and engage Sales Team Members to embrace TSC Values and understand company goals.
  • Conduct selling skills training and monthly development sessions for all Sales Team Members.
  • Foster a competitive yet collaborative environment to achieve company sales goals.
  • Assess individual performance and provide coaching as needed.
  • Analyze data to identify key insights, draw conclusions, and implement actionable strategies.
  • Ensure adequate sales floor coverage by appropriately assigning Team Members throughout the day.
  • Assist Store Manager in leading, coaching, and developing the Sales Team and Team Leaders.
  • Perform various duties including:
    • Driving sales and profit, customer loyalty, planning, prioritization, and delegation.
    • Overseeing the Sales Team, including coaching, hiring, and training.
    • Resolving customer complaints to ensure positive experiences.
    • Training on policies and procedures.
    • Operating cash registers and completing opening/closing procedures.
    • Transporting and depositing funds.
    • Supervising cash handling and adhering to loss prevention standards.
    • Operating equipment such as forklifts and balers.
    • Assisting customers with loading purchases.
    • Completing all related documentation.
    • Obtaining necessary licenses and certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Experience: Previous retail leadership experience is required. Prior sales and supervisory experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge of farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding is a plus. Must be 18 or older and possess a valid driver’s license.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field is preferred. Ability to read, write, and count accurately is essential regardless of education level.

  • Experience in customer service and selling skills.

Working Conditions
  • Indoor and outdoor work on hard surfaces with adequate lighting and temperature.
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Work shifts generally range from 4 to over 8 hours, varying by store.
  • Maintain a safe and productive environment following safety guidelines.
  • Moderate noise levels indoors.
Physical Requirements
  • This role is non-sedentary and requires physical stamina.
  • Ability to move quickly and safely throughout the store and outdoor areas.
  • Ability to read, write, and count accurately for documentation.
  • Ability to lift and transfer merchandise up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 2000 pounds with equipment.
  • Frequent standing, kneeling, twisting, crouching, and climbing.
  • Ability to operate store equipment safely.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to process transactions via POS system.
  • Completion of training and certifications, including propane handling if applicable.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle for business needs and travel as required.
