The Store Manager is responsible for managing all operational and team member aspects of a specialty retail farm and ranch store. Primary duties include delivering a Legendary Customer Experience, driving sales and profit, building and coaching the team, and leading execution of company standards. The Store Manager is also responsible for promoting a safe and productive work environment for all Team Members, customers, and vendors, as well as training Team Members on the appropriate application of policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

It is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, as you must be able to fulfill all of the following requirements:

  • Deliver on our promise of Legendary Customer Service through GURA:
    • Greet the Customer.
    • Uncover Customer’s Needs & Wants.
    • Recommend Product Solutions.
    • Ask to Add Value & Appreciate the Customer.
  • Drive sales and profit by supporting top-line sales, developing service behaviors, executing merchandising initiatives, managing expenses, and protecting assets through loss prevention.
  • Communicate store needs, market differences, and merchandise opportunities to leadership.
  • Build and coach the store team, including hiring, retention, scheduling, training, coaching, performance reviews, and succession planning.
  • Create a welcoming environment that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring team members reflect the communities served.
  • Lead execution of Tractor Supply standards, including service, store presentation, inventory, freight, pricing, loss prevention, and compliance.
  • Perform daily duties such as ensuring a positive customer experience, handling complaints, coaching team members, and managing store operations like opening/closing, deposits, cash handling, and poultry care.
  • Maintain regular attendance, work varied shifts, and promote a safe work environment following policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications

Experience: Minimum two years of retail leadership experience; farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding knowledge preferred. Experience in profit/loss, scheduling, shrink control, payroll, staffing, hiring, supervising, and counseling is advantageous. Must be 18+ with a valid driver’s license.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Ability to read, write, and count accurately is essential regardless of education level.

Preferred knowledge, skills, or abilities

⦁ Ability to perform and execute team responsibilities.
⦁ Effective communication with team members and customers.
⦁ Strong interpersonal skills and ethical issue resolution.

Working Conditions
  • Generally indoor with moderate noise; outdoor work possible in adverse weather.
  • Shifts typically range from 4 to over 8 hours, varying by store needs.
  • Follow safety guidelines to promote a safe environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Non-sedentary role requiring movement throughout the store and outdoors.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull merchandise up to specified weights, operate equipment, and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to complete required training and certifications, including handling birds and dispensing propane if applicable.
