The Manager Trainee is responsible for learning the duties of the Store Manager position and developing the skills required for a Store Manager role. Primary duties include delivering a Legendary Customer Experience, building the team, driving sales, managing inventory, managing profit and sales, expense control, reducing and managing shrink.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Manager Trainee, you will observe and learn the following duties and skills required for a Store Manager role:

  • Recruit, hire, develop, evaluate, discipline, and retain efficient team members.
  • Deliver Legendary Customer Service through GURA:
    • Greet the Customer.
    • Uncover Customer Needs & Wants.
    • Recommend Product Solutions.
    • Ask to Add Value & Appreciate the Customer.
  • Create a welcoming environment and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion in the store, ensuring team members reflect the communities served.
  • Schedule, organize, and plan daily activities for team members to ensure efficient store operations.
  • Lead team members to ensure a Legendary shopping experience that differentiates from competitors.
  • Communicate company processes, policies, and directives; evaluate their effectiveness and collaborate with management to improve.
  • Learn to create a positive work environment through promotions, recognition, and empowerment.
  • Handle problem solving and conflict resolution for team members and customers.
  • Learn sales and profit management, aiming to achieve financial goals.
  • Promote a safe and productive work environment.
  • Manage daily merchandise flow, inventory controls, and organize merchandise resets to company standards.
  • Implement and sustain merchandise presentation standards.
  • Evaluate the competitive environment and coordinate with teams to ensure quality and performance.
  • PAPERWORK: Train on processing invoices, schedules, product orders, returns, and POs reports; conduct sales forecasting, payroll analysis, and budget review; document evaluations and corrective actions.
  • INVENTORY: Manage periodic price changes, communicate inventory needs, and collaborate with buyers and supply chain teams to resolve inventory issues.
  • SPECIAL PROJECTS: Coordinate sales events, assist in district issues, and support operational needs; engage in community involvement.
  • TEAM MEMBER RELATIONS: Reinforce company mission and values, address team member issues, and develop team members for advancement.
  • BUDGET/AUDITING: Be responsible for budgeting, sales forecasting, and auditing store processes.
Required Qualifications

Experience: Retail experience and/or farming, ranching, pet/equine, or welding knowledge is strongly preferred. Supervisory experience is preferred. Must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driver’s license.

Education: High school diploma; Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science or Business-related field preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
  • Valid driver’s license if driving for company business.
  • Proficiency with POS systems and merchandise processing.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math for documentation.
  • Access to all store areas including selling floor, stock, and register areas.
  • Operate store equipment such as dollies, hand-trucks, forklifts, computers, and cash registers.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work varied hours including weekends during peak seasons.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Willingness to travel to other store locations and company events.
Working Conditions
  • Standard office environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Standing, walking, reaching overhead, driving, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
