Job summary

Family Dollar is seeking an Assistant Store Manager in California to support store operations and customer service. You will help with daily activities, merchandising, and staff development while maintaining a clean, organized store environment.

Responsibilities include opening/closing, following corporate directives, and ensuring safety and compliance. This role requires effective communication and a customer‑focused approach in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs and perform physical tasks related to store operations.
• Strong organizational and communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Help organize and transfer merchandise from delivery to stockroom to sales floor and maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives and communications related to store activities.
• Maintain promotional fixtures and displays for effectiveness.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, and record keeping (payroll, scheduling, cash deposits).
• Maintain clean, well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom to company standards.
• Protect and secure all company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to policies, safety guidelines, and ensure staff follow procedures.
• Help Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
• Ensure a positive, safe, and respectful environment for customers and staff.
• Maintain store cleanliness, bathrooms, floors, trash, and general presentation.
