Job summary

Family Dollar in Kalamazoo, MI is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support store operations, customer service, and team development. You will assist with day-to-day activities, organize merchandise, and help train Store Associates while maintaining a safe, friendly environment.

The role requires strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on customer satisfaction and operational excellence in a busy retail setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain directives.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environments preferred.
• Must lift up to 55 lbs and handle frequent walking, standing, and other physical duties.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment.
• Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills required.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery to stockroom to sales floor; maintain seasonal areas.
• Open and close procedures as needed.
• Process directives, comply with procedures, and handle communications related to store activities.
• Maintain promotional fixtures and displays.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged goods, record keeping, payroll, scheduling, and loss prevention.
• Keep store areas well-stocked and organized; protect assets including cash.
• Adhere to safety policies; train and develop Store Associates.
• Ensure a positive, safe, and respectful environment with customers and staff.
• Maintain cleanliness and restock bathrooms; keep floors clean and neat.
• Other duties as assigned.
