Job summary

Family Dollar in Wayne, Michigan is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support store operations, customer service, and team development. You will assist with daily store activities, organize merchandise, and ensure a friendly, efficient shopping environment for customers and staff.

The role emphasizes leadership, hands-on supervision of store associates, adherence to company directives, and maintaining a clean, well-stocked store.

Qualifications

• High school diploma preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs and perform frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment.
• Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills required.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor as needed; maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, and related communications.
• Maintain promotional effectiveness of store-front fixtures and displays.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record keeping (payroll, scheduling, cash deposits/receipts), and loss prevention.
• Maintain a well-stocked sales floor and organized stockroom to company standards.
• Protect and secure store assets, including cash.
• Adhere to policies and safety guidelines; ensure staff follows procedures.
• Help Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
• Ensure a positive, safe, and respectful environment with customers and staff.
• Maintain store cleanliness, restocking bathrooms, cleaning floors, taking out trash, and keeping areas neat.
• Other duties as assigned.
