Job summary

Family Dollar in Houston is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to support store operations, customer service, and team development. You’ll assist with day-to-day tasks, staff supervision, and ensuring a welcoming shopping environment.

You will help organize merchandise, manage openings/closings, and ensure adherence to corporate directives while maintaining store standards and a secure environment. The role requires strong communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives is required.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs and perform frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and pulling.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Help organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom and sales floor; maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives and communications related to store activities.
• Maintain promotional fixtures and displays for storefronts.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record keeping (payroll, scheduling, cash deposits) and loss prevention.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked store and organized stockroom per company standards.
• Protect and secure all company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to safety policies; ensure staff follow procedures.
• Help Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
• Maintain a positive, safe, respectful environment with customers and staff.
• Ensure store cleanliness, restocking bathrooms, floors, and trash removal.
