Job summary

Benge's Ace Hardware in Carmel, IN is hiring an Assistant Store Manager to support the Store Manager in daily operations and lead the store team. You will supervise Keyholders and associates, build schedules, manage cash and inventory, and handle escalated customer issues.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 to 2 years of retail supervisory or keyholder experience; hardware or home improvement preferred.
• Experience with POS and inventory systems, scheduling tools, and basic spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Keyholders, Sales Associates, and Cashiers; assign work and hold the team to standards.
• Help hire, train, coach, and document performance for store associates.
• Build and adjust weekly schedules within labor targets.
• Open and close the store; manage cash, deposits, safe counts, and register audits.
• Oversee receiving, stocking, pricing, displays, and seasonal resets.
• Resolve customer complaints and escalated issues.

Hiring: Assistant Store Manager

Reports to: Store Manager

Store: Benge's Ace Hardware, 2425 Harleston Steet, Carmel, IN

At Benge's Ace Hardware, we are hiring an Assistant Manager that will help the Store Manager run daily operations and leads the store team. This role supervises Keyholders and associates, builds schedules, manages cash and inventory, and handles escalated customer issues. The Assistant Manager runs the store when the Store Manager is out and helps hire, train, and coach associates. The position is a key step toward store management.

Requirements

• Supervise Keyholders, Sales Associates, and Cashiers; assign work and hold the team to standards.
• Help hire, train, coach, and document performance for store associates.
• Build and adjust weekly schedules within labor targets.
• Open and close the store; manage cash, deposits, safe counts, and register audits.
• Oversee receiving, stocking, pricing, displays, and seasonal resets.
• Place and track orders and special orders; help with inventory counts and shrink control.
• Resolve customer complaints and escalated issues.
• Enforce company policies, safety rules, and loss-prevention procedures.
• Lead the store when the Store Manager is out.

REQUIREMENT

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Years of Experience

1 to 2 years of retail supervisory or keyholder experience; hardware or home improvement preferred.

Technology

POS and inventory systems, scheduling tools, email, and basic spreadsheets.

Other

• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time, up to a full shift.
• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly, with help or equipment for heavier items.
• Bend, stoop, kneel, reach overhead, and climb ladders.
• Operate a pallet jack or hand truck.
• Available for a rotating schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
