Job summary

HELP USA INC. is seeking an Assistant Safety Director in Brooklyn to help run a 24/7 safety program at a transitional housing shelter serving men with diagnosed mental illnesses.

You will supervise safety staff, recruit and orient new hires, and ensure adequate coverage and timely reports to maintain a safe environment for residents and staff. The role requires a NY State Security Guard License (F-02) and FDNY F-80, plus a high school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of shelter

Qualifications

• New York State Security Guard License, F-02, and FDNY F-80 required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent OR equivalent experience and skills.
• Minimum of three years of security experience in a shelter environment, with supervisory experience.
• Ability to work with people experiencing homelessness and mental illness or other disadvantaged people.
• Strong customer service orientation and ability to manage interpersonal relationships.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft applications.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist Safety Director to plan, organize, and direct 24/7 safety program.
• Supervise Safety Tour Leaders: set priorities, provide feedback, guidance.
• Recruit, hire, and orient new safety staff with Safety Director.
• Set work schedules, approve time off, and address attendance issues.
• Plan team meetings, supervise individuals, promote safety goals and values.
• Develop and deliver training activities for Safety staff.
• Prepare administrative reports, including incident reports and counseling forms.
• Serve as Fire and Safety Director in the absence of the Safety Director.
