Job summary

Housing Options and Geriatric Association Resources Inc. seeks a Director of Operations/Security to lead daily shelter operations, security, and facilities management in Long Island City. The role ensures DHS, FDNY, DOHMH and OSHA compliance while guiding operations and security teams.

The position requires 35 hours/week with on-call 24/7 coverage; supervise vendors, manage licenses, implement safety protocols, conduct inspections, and coordinate with city agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in facilities management, public administration, business, or related field.
• 5–7 years of facilities or operations management experience in residential/shelter settings.
• Valid New York State Security Guard License.
• FDNY F-80 Certificate of Fitness (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
• Valid NYS Driver’s License, if operating an agency vehicle.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and facility management systems.
• Knowledge of NYC shelter systems and DHS requirements.
• Experience supervising diverse teams in unionized environments.
• Strong organizational and written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise facility and program operations staff; manage external vendors and contractors.
• Collaborate with the Site Director to meet DHS standards and program goals.
• Partner with senior management for proposals, audits, and programmatic reports.
• Develop and implement operational goals, procedures, and emergency protocols.
• Conduct monthly facility inspections and manage licenses and permits.
• Oversee work orders, logs, inventories, and procurement processes.
