Job summary

HDR is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer in Los Angeles, CA, to support LACMTA's transit programs. The role focuses on on-site construction supervision, contract administration, and coordination with design teams to deliver high-quality facilities.

The ARE will review progress, ensure compliance with plans, prepare change orders, and assist with project reporting and documentation across rail and bus facilities, highways, and joint development projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
• Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong people skills and ability to interact with the design team.
• Commitment to employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Verifies project safety and reviews contractor operations for compliance.
• Provides direction to CMSS and contractor staff to ensure records and payments are maintained.
• Monitors contractor progress, schedules, and quality of work on site.
• Assists in day-to-day administration of construction contracts.
• Performs field inspections across paving, drainage, electrical installations, and landscaping.
• Prepares contract change orders and supports design reviews and coordination.
• Maintains project records and supports progress pay estimates.
