The Harris County Public Defender’s Office is seeking an Assistant Public Defender to work with felony and misdemeanor trial attorneys on pretrial and appellate litigation. Responsibilities include filing pretrial writs challenging bail/bond conditions and handling writs and appeals through trial and appellate courts.

Qualifications include a J.D. from an accredited law school, Texas bar admission or eligibility, and five+ years of licensed practice with trial experience.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Licensed to practice law in Texas or eligible for admission
• Licensed at least five years of practice or more

Responsibilities

• Assist with filing pretrial writs on bail and bond conditions.
• Litigate pretrial writs in trial courts and handle appellate representation on direct appeal and discretionary review.

Education

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Criminal or Civil jury trial experience
