Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited law school with a Texas license to practice law.
  • 2.5 years of legal experience required.
  • Lead prosecutor experience for felony offenses preferred.
  • Extensive appellate work may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate criminal complaints to decide prosecution; file proper documentation for indictment.
  • Review cases, perform legal research, interview witnesses, gather evidence, determine action.
  • Draft, file, and respond to motions, briefs, or other documents for trial/hearing.
  • Explain legal processes to witnesses and prepare them for court testimony; keep clients informed.
  • Gather, prepare, and present evidence and exhibits for trial or hearings.
  • Represent the State in trial/hearings; conduct jury selection, openings, direct and cross-examinations, closings.
  • Negotiate settlements or plea-bargain; obtain approvals when needed.
  • Prepare legal documents for settlements/plea agreements and ensure signatures and filings.
  • Manage court docket and case schedules; maintain records accurately.
  • Train Attorneys I-III; assist in training as needed.
  • May perform Section Chief duties temporarily.
