Job summary

Dewberry's Richmond, VA office is seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM). The APM supports the PM by assisting with client communication, preparing quality engineering documents, and helping to manage project timelines.

With experience, the APM advances to greater leadership responsibilities and manages projects under the PM's guidance. The role targets individuals with construction background and a willingness to grow in project management, reporting to the PM.

Qualifications

  • Accomplished construction professional with 5+ years of experience.
  • EIT or PE certification.
  • Familiar with AIA and Virginia state contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the PM and client; attend design meetings and issue minutes.
  • Organize in-house meetings under PM guidance.
  • Assist in scheduling and resource loading; coordinate with project team.
  • Prepare storyboards and detailed project timelines.
  • Support design binder organization and document submissions.
  • Attend bid events and prepare bid tabulations.

Assistant Project Manager

Dewberry's Richmond, VA office is seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM). The APM role is intended for those interested in Project Management but with no or limited project management experience. The APM will initially be responsible for assisting the Project Manager (PM) in supporting the client, providing feedback to the PM in order to quickly solve problems; providing quality engineering documents that meet the client's desires and budget. With progressive experience, the APM will take on more leadership and responsibilities while managing projects. In short, the APM assists the PM in making them a "Client for Life". Assists the client to achieve both their professional goals and the organization. Reports to the PM.

Key Required Skills
  • Accomplished (5+ years of experience) Construction Professional (Engineer or Contractor)
  • EIT or PE
  • Knowledgeable of construction process, familiar with AIA and VA state construction contracts
Responsibilities
  • Always copy the PM on all communication (Emails, tele conv, etc) with the client, architect and outside consultants.
  • Assist in conducting fieldwork and at times take the lead in this effort.
  • Attend design meetings with the client and issue minutes when the Project Manager cannot attend or accompany the PM to meetings.
  • Organize and direct frequent in-house meetings under the direction of the PM.
  • Provide input to the PM in regards to scheduling personnel. Work with the PM in the preparation of detailed personnel loading by task interfaced with the detailed schedule.
  • Assist the PM in the preparation of storyboards and detailed project timelines.
  • Assist the PM in the organization and maintenance of the design binder.
  • Assist the PM in the coordination of all the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
  • Assist the PM in the supervision and coordination of the submission of documents to appropriate reviewing authorities.
  • Assist the PM in the coordination of the review responses and help ensure they are reflected in the drawings/specifications.
  • Under the direction of the PM, arrange for in-house quality review primarily for the PM to ensure that all of the clients' needs and requests have been accommodated. Assist the PM to ensure and coordinate among all of the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
  • Arrange/attend pre-bid conferences when the Project Manager cannot attend or accompany the PM. If required, issue the minutes, addenda, under the direction/supervision of the PM.
  • Assist the PM at bid openings and help to prepare / issue certified bid tabulation.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Accomplished (5+ years of experience) Construction Professional (Engineer or Contractor)
  • EIT or PE
  • Knowledgeable of construction process, familiar with AIA and VA state construction contracts
  • Self‑motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Well organized, takes good notes.
  • Good conceptual understanding of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and structural systems with general knowledge of system operation, space requirements, cost.

The projected range for this position is $95,000.00 - $122,000.00 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
