Job summary

Dewberry's Richmond, VA office is seeking an MEP Project Manager to act as the primary contact between our office and the Owner, effectively manage projects from concept through design, bidding, negotiation, and construction administration, and help win future projects with the same client.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain licensure within one year of start date.
  • 7+ years of experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of construction process.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain primary one-to-one contact with the client.
  • Understand the client’s needs and goals and those of his/her organization.
  • Draft proposals for new projects, track proposals through award, and develop additional work opportunities.
  • Attend regular design meetings with the client and issue meeting minutes.
  • Oversee approval and oversight of design and construction documents, including signing and sealing as Engineer or Record.
  • Coordinate with Design Discipline Managers to schedule, plan and assign appropriate personnel.
  • Prepare storyboards and detailed project timelines.
  • Provide quality control to ensure all client requests are accommodated, and coordinate among all disciplines involved.
  • Provide on-the-spot advice and decisions to Owner.
  • Advise on project billing and assist in collections.
  • Supervise and coordinate submission of documents to the appropriate reviewing authorities.
  • Coordinate responses to reviews and ensure responses are reflected in drawings and specifications.
  • Arrange and attend pre-bid conferences, issue meeting minutes, and addenda.
  • Conduct bid openings and prepare/issue certified bid tabulations; assist in CA phase to maintain positive standing with Client.
  • Perform site visits, inspections, and commissioning activities to support Construction Administration.
  • Assist with recruiting, evaluating, and making recommendations for new employees to support the MEPS practice.

The role involves working closely with the client to anticipate and resolve issues, coordinating a multi‑disciplined team to produce high‑quality engineering documents, and maintaining a long‑term client relationship.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within one year of start date.
  • 7+ years of experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of construction process.
  • Self‑motivated with highly developed verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Well organized, with good understanding of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems, general knowledge of applicable codes, national standards, client design standards, system operation, space requirements, and cost.

Compensation

The projected range for this position is $116,000.00 - $149,000.00 annually. Depending on other factors (skills, experience, location, market conditions) the range may vary slightly.
