Job Summary

Position # 20000204. The College of Allied Health Sciences at Augusta University is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor. The candidate will provide instruction for students in the Respiratory Therapy Program, including didactic and clinical environments with supervision in a clinical setting. In addition, the candidate will engage in scholarship activities such as research, presentations, and publications, and will serve the institution, college, and department through committee service.

Responsibilities

Teaching – 80% Teach courses as assigned to meet program and curriculum needs. Provide leadership in academic instruction and clinical education, ensuring high‑quality learning experiences. Contribute to ongoing program evaluation and curriculum development. Mentor faculty colleagues and clinical educators. Foster professional connections with relevant organizations, community partners, advisory boards, and accreditation bodies.

Scholarship – 10% Engage in ongoing scholarly work, producing peer‑reviewed products such as publications, presentations, and funded research. Contribute to advancing Respiratory Therapy through research, grants, and dissemination of findings.

Service – 10% Participate in student recruitment and admissions, including interviews and application review. Serve on departmental, college, and institutional committees. Support student success through advising and professional development. Engage in professional associations, community outreach, and advocacy.

Required Qualifications
  • Masters in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
  • 4 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • 2 years teaching in a registered CoARC accredited program OR as a clinical instructor/preceptor for such students.
  • RTT Credential, eligible for Georgia RCP License.
  • Early‑level career Assistant Professor (0–4 years’ experience in a related field).
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation requirements.
  • Evidence of teaching ability.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and ability in other duties.
  • Successful experience (waived for new entrants meeting all other requirements).
  • Desirable personal qualities judged by interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree, specialty credentials, additional years of experience.

Shift / Salary / Benefits

This position is fiscal‑year based and works year‑round. The intended full‑time equivalent (FTE) is 1.0. Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements and is subject to the availability of funds. Employees with more than six months of successful service may be eligible for Tuition Assistance. Rank and salary are determined at hire based on experience, education, credentials, and market data.
