Job summary

Jackson College in Michigan seeks an Assistant Coach for Men’s Basketball to assist the head coach in recruiting, instruction and monitoring student-athletes. You will aid in scheduling and supervision of volunteers, while maintaining compliance with NJCAA and MCCAA rules.

The role emphasizes fostering sportsmanship, coordinating practices and travel, and supporting athletes academically and athletically. A college coaching background and CPR/First Aid are preferred.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: Associate Degree or equivalent credits from an accredited undergraduate institution or combination of education and experience is required. Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Health Promotion, or related field preferred. Three or more years of experience serving as a coach in a college, high school or club setting required. College coaching or playing experience preferred.
• CPR/First Aid certification required, or able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
• Computer skills: word processing, scheduling, e-mail and spreadsheets.
• Language skills: ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedures; strong oral and written communication.
• Mathematical skills: ability to perform basic statistics.
• Reasoning abilities: apply common sense to carry out instructions and solve problems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruitment of prospective student-athletes.
• Submit list of recruits for grant approval.
• Assist in developing preliminary scheduling and season plan.
• Supervise volunteer coaches and student-athletes (academic, practice and games).
• Foster sportsmanship and fair play.
• Coordinate practices, game and team travel.
• Abide by NJCAA and MCCAA rules.
• Follow College policies (travel, scholarships, PO).
• Foster a positive image for the College and Athletic Department.
• Promote and track student community service and academic performance.
• Refer student-athletes to College resources when support is needed.
• Engage in athletic program fund development.
• Support student-athlete preparation and transfer when athletic and academic transfer is the goal.
• Demonstrate College beliefs, values, mission and vision.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
