Job summary

Burns & McDonnell seeks an Assistant Mechanical Engineer in Raleigh, NC to assist project teams from concept through design completion. You will work with senior engineers on power, process, healthcare, and other facilities, updating drawings and supporting client interactions.

The role emphasizes CAD/BIM usage, basic engineering techniques, and strong communication. Internship or related consulting exposure is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard mechanical engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in problem solving.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Basic CAD/software skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D rendering, hydraulic and HVAC analysis.
• Strong attention to detail, collaboration and problem solving.
• Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the mechanical design from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for various facilities.
• Assists in designing mechanical components as directed by project managers.
• Applies basic knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles, and practices.
• Assists with researching and compiling project data as required.
• Assists with updating drawings in CAD-related software.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
• Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations.
