Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Raleigh, NC seeks an Assistant Electrical Engineer to support project teams in designing and updating electrical systems for diverse facilities. You will assist from concept to design completion, coordinate drawings, and help ensure compliance with codes and project requirements.

The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering, strong communication, and proficiency with CAD/BIM tools; internship or consulting experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field from a recognized, accredited program required.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
• CANDIDATES must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.
• Basic knowledge in standard electrical engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
• Basic computer skills include electrical analysis programs (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD, BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the electrical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assist with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects.
• Assist in designing electrical components for project needs as set forth by project managers.
• Apply basic knowledge of electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
• Assist with research and data collection for project managers.
• Assist with updating drawings in CAD software.
• Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assist in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with all policies and standards.
