Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Roanoke/Norfolk area seeks an Assistant Mechanical Engineer to support licensed engineers in creating world-class designs for diverse projects, from concept to construction. You will help modify drawings, perform CAD updates, and contribute to client presentations while gaining exposure to power, process, healthcare, and governmental facilities.

The role requires a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering, basic techniques knowledge, and strong communication.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
Basic knowledge in standard mechanical engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Assists in the mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects including power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.
Assists in designing mechanical components for project needs and requirements set forth by project managers.
Applies basic knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering concepts within the industry.
Assists with field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
