Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Mechanical Engineer to assist project teams in designing and redeveloping facilities across sectors, including power, healthcare, and government. You will work under licensed professionals to adapt designs within budget and client needs.

You will help with drawings, client presentations, and field inspections, while developing technical skills in AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), and HVAC/hydraulic analysis. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in quantitative problem solving.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
• AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D rendering programs; hydraulic and HVAC analysis tools.
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
• Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• GPA 3.0+ strongly preferred.
• Campus or community involvement preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanical design from concept through design completion.
• Assist with reviewing drawings for various facilities (power, process, industrial, healthcare, etc.).
• Assist in designing mechanical components per project requirements.
• Apply basic mechanical engineering concepts in projects.
• Help compile project data as required by managers.
• Assist in updating CAD drawings and verifying corrections across software.
• Assist with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assist in field inspections, measurements, or calculations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with all policies and standards.
