Job summary

Breaking Ground seeks an Assistant Maintenance Supervisor for 90 Sands Street, Brooklyn. You will supervise housekeeping staff, manage janitorial operations, and uphold safety standards to support residents in affordable and supportive housing.

Reporting to the Building superintendent, you will coordinate tasks, maintain schedules, and assist with inspections and staff training, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for tenants.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; trade certification preferred.
• Minimum 2 years in building maintenance or janitorial fields; some supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience operating high speed buffer, trash compactor, snow removal equipment and other janitorial tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs.

Responsibilities

• Assign janitorial duties to staff and regularly inspect their work to ensure standards are met.
• Issue cleaning supplies and equipment to janitorial staff as needed.
• Take inventory of all cleaning supplies and inform management when supplies are depleted.
• Ensure compliance with NYC Sanitation Dept trash collection regulations.
• Assist with screening and hiring of new job applicants.
• Provide training and guidance to janitorial staff.
• Resolve conflicts between janitorial staff efficiently.
• Attend meetings and in-service training sessions as required.
• Perform all janitorial duties during staff shortages.
• Assist with annual building-wide inspections conducted by DHS, DOH, DOB, FDNY, and others.
• Address tenant concerns about janitorial conditions via meetings or notices.
• Respond to emergency calls and rectify issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
