Job description

The City Center YMCA is hiring an Assistant Group Supervisor for after School Care.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides direction for children in the classroom, implements program curriculum, and ensures a quality experience for children and parents, focusing on achievement, belonging, and relationships within families.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Implements purposeful programming and curriculum, prepared in advance.
  • Supervises children, classroom activities, and all program standards.
  • Guides children in developmentally appropriate play and routines.
  • Observes and evaluates each child's development to tailor activities.
  • Provides positive feedback and manages challenging behaviors.
  • Builds positive relationships with families, conducts conferences, and involves parents as volunteers.
  • Maintains program site and equipment standards.
  • Ensures a safe, healthy environment, knowledgeable of safety/emergency procedures, infection control, and proper hygiene.
  • Maintains program records and completes required trainings.
  • Participates in family nights, staff meetings, and training.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Reports suspected abuse per law and YMCA policy.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Must meet one of the following:

  • High school diploma or GED + 30 college credits in early childhood education, child development, special education, or human services.
  • High school diploma or GED + 600 hours of relevant secondary training.
  • High school diploma or GED + 15 college credits + 1 year experience with children.
  • High school diploma or GED + completion of post-secondary training.
  • High school diploma or GED + 2 years experience with children.

Additional requirements include:

  • State Police, Child Abuse, NSOR, FBI clearances, negative TB test, physical.
  • Mandated Reporter training certification.
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED certifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Light exertion, ability to move objects up to 20 pounds, visual and auditory requirements, exposure to outdoor elements, and potential contact with bodily fluids. Clearances required per law and YMCA policy.
