Job summary

Sea Island Golf Club is seeking an Assistant Golf Professional to support head staff in golf operations, pro shop duties, and guest services on property. You will help manage carts, practice facilities, and deliver an exceptional guest experience while upholding Sea Island standards.

The role requires PGA membership or active enrollment, strong communication, and a willingness to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year working in golf industry/private golf club experience.
• GolfGenius experience.
• Knowledge of daily golf course operations, USGA rules, handicap, and course rating.
• Class A PGA Membership or currently enrolled as an associate.
• Must have passed the player ability test and advanced skill in playing golf.
• College degree preferred.

Overview

Sea Island Golf Club is actively looking to fill the role of Assistant Golf Professional. This role is a great opportunity for an assistant to become well rounded and prepare for the next step of becoming a head golf professional. Sea Island Golf Club has a proven track record to recruit top talent and preparing each professional for their future endeavors. The Assistant Golf Professional would assist the Head Golf Professionals and 1 st Assistant Golf Professionals in the management of golf operations, including the Pro Shop, golf cart rentals, practice facilities, and assist the golf staff in providing members and guests of the Golf Club with an incomparable golf experience while abiding by all company and departmental policies and procedures. Work involves independent decisions requiring technical knowledge, sound judgment and familiarity with the golf industry standards.

Experience Required

• Minimum of one (1) year working in golf industry/private golf club experience preferred
• GolfGenius experience
• Basic knowledge of: daily golf course operations, USGA rules, handicap, course rating system, mechanics and techniques of golf swing, and general game of golf
• Class A PGA Membership or currently enrolled as an associate of the PGA of America
• Must have passed the player ability test for the PGA program and advanced skill in playing golf
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist in displaying golf shop merchandise
• Monitor overall inventory levels of merchandise, restock when needed
• Assist with physical inventories
• Ensure all merchandise is correctly tagged and priced
• Assist in selling merchandise and customer service
• Assist with special orders for merchandise
• Assist in operation of point of sale system to record sales, guest fees, caddie fees
• Record and bill orders accurately into the register system using guest/member card
• Assist in recording of daily sales and rounds played into excel documents
• Learn the names and personally recognize our regular Guests and Members
• Answer any questions guests may have about Sea Island or the area to the best of one's ability
• Answer incoming telephone calls
• Assist scheduling tee times and answers questions regarding the use of golf facilities
• Assist in monitoring overall cart maintenance including tire pressure and battery's water level on a weekly basis
• Observe Sea Island Instructional staff as scheduled
• Ensure Caddie Master is aware of Caddie needs at least 24 hours in advance
• Communicate needs and provide feedback to Caddie Master
• Assist Head Professionals and Caddie Master with monitoring of Caddie's performances
• Assist Head Professionals with all tournament operation needs
• Communicate with Outside Service Manager to inform outside staff of tournament needs for practice range, golf carts, food and beverage needs, communication with security gate, and bag drop staff
• Assist Outside Service staff when needed
• Assist in supervising the Course Maintenance Personnel in charge of Daily Course Set-up routine when needed
• Assist Head Professionals with golf course set up
• Assist with teaching golf lessons or clinics while improving your skills to teach when needed
• Communicate food and beverage needs with Executive Chef for events when needed
• Maintain timeline for successful completion of Associate Program
• Fulfill PGA Member Service Requirement (MSR) to maintain a class "A" standing
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of current guest services, activities, dining options, shops, local attractions, and historical information regarding Sea Island and the surrounding area to answer any questions guests may have to the best of one's ability
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in all work areas
• Uphold appropriate departmental standards of quality/timing
• Uphold and ensure compliance with all company and departmental policies and procedures
• Report all equipment problems and maintenance issues, known safety hazards, or unsafe practices and procedures to supervisor immediately
• Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement
• Willing and timely execution of other duties as delegated by leadership
