Job summary

West Virginia University’s General Counsel's Office seeks an Assistant General Counsel to advise the University, the WVU Board of Governors, the President, WVURC, and related entities on a broad spectrum of legal matters. The position reports to the Vice President and General Counsel and will assist in policy review, contract drafting, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Experience in two or more areas: higher education law, contracts, transactional work, litigation, health care law, corporate law, employment, compliance with regulations governing federal research, immigration, trademark, and intellectual property.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct policy-making input and advice; draft, modify, or review institutional policies and procedures.
• Review, draft, and negotiate contracts on behalf of the University and WVURC.
• Advise on FERPA, WV FOIA, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA issues and related regulatory compliance.
• Review responses to document requests (FOIA, subpoenas).
• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda; provide high-quality advice to the Board.
• Assist in litigation under GC supervision; perform other duties as assigned.
