Job summary

The University of West Florida in Pensacola seeks a full‑time Associate/Deputy General Counsel to provide comprehensive legal services to the Board of Trustees, President, administration, faculty and staff. You will represent the University in court and before agencies, coordinate with outside counsel, and train internal teams on legal issues.

The role covers contract and transactional work, higher education law, employment and labor negotiations, student affairs, IP, and state entity law.

Qualifications

• Law degree (L.L.B or J.D.) and two years experience as an attorney.
• Must be a member of the Florida Bar.
• Minimum of five years' experience as an attorney with two years in Florida; Florida Bar in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Assist in counseling and advising in the areas of the law as assigned; provide general legal guidance to University departments; counsel campus community on legal compliance; conduct internal investigations; coordinate responses to records requests; draft and revise University regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Remain current on developments in higher education law and related practice areas.
• Represent the University at legal proceedings and prepare documents for representation.
• Train University staff and faculty on pertinent legal issues and other tasks as assigned.
