Job description

Responsibilities

The Assistant Facilities and Maintenance Director is responsible for performing repairs and maintenance to all City facilities and street lighting systems. This role also includes assisting the Facilities and Maintenance Director, as needed, in the oversight and management of all aspects of building maintenance, including HVAC systems, HVAC control systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, security systems, communication systems, elevators, fire alarm systems, contracted projects, preventive maintenance contracts, and street lighting systems. This position requires expertise in maintaining and troubleshooting electrical systems, lighting controls system, and street lighting control systems. The Assistant Director serves as the back-up to the Director of Facilities and Maintenance in their absence.

Hours

Monday thru Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.

Requirements
  • Knowledge of general building systems such as HVAC, plumbing, communications, etc.
  • Technical knowledge related to electrical, lighting controls, etc.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, standards, and regulations as they relate to the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of the proper methods, materials, tools, terminology, and equipment used in the building maintenance trades, with a particular emphasis on the electrical trade depending on the relevant license(s) held.
  • Familiar with project management methodologies.
  • Familiarity with OSHA health and safety regulations and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the proper methods of storing equipment, hazardous materials, and supplies.
  • Skilled in the operation, use, and care of specialized equipment used in facilities maintenance and building trades.
  • Knowledge of record keeping procedures.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches.
  • Ability to operate a bucket truck and a wide variety of power equipment and hand tools related to facilities maintenance and electrical trades, as qualified.
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to proficiently use software routinely used on the job, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications. Ability and willingness to learn new software programs as needed.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and organized records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities with minimal direction.
  • Ability to deal courteously with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other departments.
  • Ability and willingness to display a high level of respect and professionalism in the workplace and conduct business in an ethical manner at all times.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed, including responding to emergencies outside of normal working hours.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle to transport self to various facilities.
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the position.
Pay Scale

This is a full-time, non-exempt, union position with a comprehensive benefits package including: medical, vision, dental, short term disability insurance, a pension, and generous paid time off. Pay range General Government 18: $28.43 to $36.76 per hour.
