Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Saint Louis, MO is seeking an Assistant Distribution Engineer to join a project team designing 2.4kV–34.5kV distribution systems. You will assist with design, calculations, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle, under supervision of a licensed professional engineer.

The role emphasizes collaboration, basic distribution knowledge, and communication with stakeholders, including field teams and clients, in a fast-paced utility environment.

Qualifications

• ABET accredited program strongly preferred.
• FE exam required or in process.
• Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of electrical distribution power flow preferred.
• Engineers in Training (EIT) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in distribution design from concept to completion.
• Prepare voltage packages for overhead and underground projects.
• Create design sketches, BOMs, and cost estimates.
• Perform calculations: cable pulling, voltage drop, pole loading.
• Apply NESC and utility standards knowledge.
• Assist field inspections of electric facilities.
• Collect and organize project data for managers.
• Support vegetation management, ROW, and outage planning communication.
• Assist client presentations, reports, and visualizations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
