Job summary

The Police Athletic League (PAL) is seeking an Assistant Director to lead after-school programs embedded within NYC public schools or PAL centers. The role focuses on youth development through SEL, STEM, literacy, sports, arts, and college/career access programming, reporting to the Program Director.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or credential in child development, education, physical education or recreation with 2 years of youth experience.
• Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in youth programs with staff supervision.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese preferred.
• Willingness to travel to PAL locations citywide; schedule includes after-school hours and some evenings.

Responsibilities

• Foster social and emotional development and well-being in a safe, inclusive environment.
• Oversee PAL school after-school programming and mental health support coordination.
• Recruit, hire, and supervise part-time staff and Activity Specialists.
• Align program with PAL policies, funding requirements, and fire safety standards.
• Develop a Youth Development culture with training and coaching on SEL and inclusion.
